On December 14, 2017, the Winner Announcement Dinner for “Golden Ribbon” Awarding of Excellent TV Programs was held in Shangri-La Hotel in Beijing, China. Two films recommended by Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival Organizing Committee, Mama Amamapare from Indonesia and Orbis from South Africa were awarded “Golden Ribbon” Excellent Programs.
The "Golden Ribbon" Awarding of Excellent TV Programs hosted by China International Television Corporation, collects TV dramas, documentaries and animations from global media broadcasting and production agencies. According to the program quality and production difficulty, 1or 2 excellent programs are selected for each category. The organizing committee will give each program up to $30,000-$50,000 for a license fee subsidy for broadcast rights in community-based simulcasting events.
During the event, Simon Wood, director of the film Orbis, received the trophy and certificate and delivered an acceptance speech on site. Directors Fabian Kakisina, Yonri Revolt, and the production team Eagle Institute Indonesia of Mama Amamapare, were unable to attend the awarding ceremony for personal reasons. The Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival Organizing Committee accepted the trophy and certificate on behalf of them.
Simon Wood said in his acceptance speech, "It was a incredible first visit to China, thank you for inviting me. I’d like to thank to the Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival who put the film forward, and very much like to thank everyone involved in selecting the film and giving me this beautiful trophy. I come from South Africa. It is a very beautiful country, I invite you to come to visit one day."
