The Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival
The Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival is an event organized by a private Chinese enterprise. It is an international documentary film festival which, with the participation of internationally recognized experts from the fields of culture, art, academia as well as the film industry, brings together documentary films from all around the world. The Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival is held annually in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The festival aims to promote the international exchange in the documentary film industry and to build a bridge for exchange, trade and communication in the documentary film industry between East and West. The festival encourages creative, critical, unique and meaningful documentary films of exceptional quality to participate. It honors the outstanding achievements and work of filmmakers in the documentary film industry. By supporting exceptional works and presenting breathtaking documentary films to the world, the Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival serves as a professional platform for documentary films, which offers extraordinary possibilities to every documentary filmmaker.
The first Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival was held from October 15th to 18th, 2016 in Frankfurt am Main. 400 films from a total of 37 nations were registered for participation in the festival. After the conclusion of the first festival, it received the recognition of the international documentary film industry, mainstream media and the general public. To date, almost 2000 films from more than 90 countries and regions have registered for the second Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival. The Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival consists of six integral parts, including exhibitions, film screenings, awards, dialogue forums, an investment fund and a trade platform for broadcasting rights. By integrating the exhibition of exceptional documentary films and promoting participation, investment and discussion in an industry framework, the festival aims at continuous development of the documentary film industry, contributing to its prosperity and playing an even greater role in the development of the industry.
“Countries have borders, but culture knows no limits". Documentary films serve as an important medium for cultural exchange between different nations. The Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival invites all young filmmakers of the documentary film industry to participate – there are no borders. The Golden Tree espouses the view that documentary film directors and producers utilize their own perspectives in making documentary films. Individual creativity should be paramount. The festival aims at providing artists from around the world with a platform for exchange and communication. In addition, the festival provides all members of the documentary film industry with a fair opportunity to make a name for themselves on the world stage
Segments of the Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival
During the three days of the Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival, documentary film organizations and individuals will be provided with a special area for exhibition, to encourage the participants to carry out intensive discussions and exchanges.
During the documentary film festival, the documentary films that have passed the pre-selection phase will be shown in screening rooms, to enable normal people to participate in the festival and enjoy the films.
Broadcasting Right Trade
A film database and a talent pool will be established for the copyright holders or groups and organizations of all registered films, in order to provide special and comprehensive services in the field of trade of broadcasting rights and services for the recommendation of talent.
The pre-selection committee and the jury of the Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival includes internationally known personalities. After the members of the pre-selection committee have selected the finalists out of all participating films according to a quota, the jury selects the recipients of the Golden Tree Awards.

The establishment of the “Golden Tree International Documentary Film Fund“ through right-sharing commercial methods provides investments to directors, producers and copyright holders of documentary films and serves as support and promotion of persons in the documentary film world for exploration in the field of documentary films.
Review for the first Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival
The first Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival was successfully held in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, from October 15th to 18th, 2016 and achieved a number of international copyright transactions and international cooperation agreements. The Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival consisted of the six large segments: exhibitions, film screenings, awards, forums, investment fund and broadcasting right trade.
The theme of the first Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival was “Man and Nature – Looks and Roots”. Almost 400 documentary films from 37 countries and regions registered for participation. 38 documentary films from China, France, Germany, Israel, India and other countries and regions were nominated for the final competition through pre-selection by an international committee. All nominated films participated in the film screenings.

Jean-Claude Carrière (France)
French novelist, playwright, film festival dean, former president of the French state film school La Fémis, recipient of the Academy Honorary Award for lifetime achievement as screenwriter at the 87th academy awards, Academy Award for Best Short Subject for “Heureux Anniversaire” (1963).
Pierre-Henri Deleau (France)
Actor, film producer, film festival founder and leader, chairman of the independent segment “Director’s Fortnight” at the Cannes Film Festival, first director of the French TV-festival FIPA, jury member of the International Film Festival Venice.

Paul Lewis (Canada)
Paul Lewis is a famous Canadian journalist, producer and now president of Great Pacific Television. Before joining Great Pacific he launched the world‘s first daily science program Daily Planet on the Discovery Channel Canada. He served as president and general manager during Discovery Canada‘s most significant period of expansion and made it the most watched factual channel in the country. Paul has supervised a multitude of TV-networks and websites and is a founding member of the World Congress of Science and Factual Producers and the Canadian Science Media Centre, as well as director of these institutions.
Paweł Łoziński (Poland)
Currently a lecturer for documentary film technology at the Gdansk Film School in Poland. Director, screenwriter and producer and has received awards at numerous international film festivals, including Best Television Documentary at the Prix Europa in Berlin and the Golden Dove at the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film. Among his most outstanding works are: “You don’t know How Much I Love You” (Nawet nie wiesz jak bardzo cię kocham), 2016; “Father and Son” (Ojciec i syn), 2013; “Chemia” (Chemo), 2008.
Pieter van Huystee (Netherlands)
Producer. Among his representative works are: “The New Rijksmuseum” and “On the Way to School”, among others.
Once a very creative director at IDTV, he founded his own production company in 1995. Since then he has been working with famous Dutch directors such as Johan van der Keuken, Heddy Honigmann and Klaartje Quirijns, among others, to produce documentaries and feature films. His company is now one of the most influential independent production companies in the Netherlands, which is highly respected in the industry for its quality and wide-ranging business. In 1999 Peter’s business expanded with the addition of the department Public Film, intending to introduce German documentary films to local cinemas. It is worth mentioning that many of Peter’s documentaries and works have been screened at various global film festivals and have won numerous awards.
George Kalomenopoulos (Greece)
Founder and owner of the company 2k, an independent production company based in Athens, producing and co-producing documentaries, feature films and commercials. 2k works with Greek and foreign directors that share common goals, in order to produce films in line with the global interests of a wide audience. The company also develops and produces documentaries, short films and feature films representing the original and innovative views of their directors and reflecting the modern world’s cultural diversity
